Funding Approaches and Sources to Improve Adolescent School Health

Research BriefHealthy SchoolsDec 23 2024

Schools play a unique role in the promotion of adolescent health. To provide adolescents with high-quality health resources and activities, schools and their partners require adequate funding. This resource offers tips for securing funding to support health education, health services, and safe and supportive school environments in schools and outlines some available funding and grant programs within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Education (ED). The resource also highlights administrative approaches such as blending and braiding of funds as ways to expand the reach of adolescent health programs and concludes with a discussion of how efforts can be integrated into state budgets, using one state as a case study to demonstrate such an integration.

This resource was prepared for the Leadership Exchange for Adolescent Health Promotion (LEAHP) project, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC-DASH) to provide training and support to multi-sector state teams working on adolescent health in schools.
